Water mushrooms

Water mushrooms

Lluís Sabadell Artiga

The "water mushrooms" are inspired by a permaculture irrigation system. It uses an unglazed terracotta pitcher buried, with the mouth sticking out, for efficient watering. Nearby plants absorb water according to their needs, in the manner of drip irrigation.

Based on this concept, "Water Mushrooms" are container sculptures to create self-sustaining ecosystems. These have a widened mouth that collects rainwater, provides shade and protects the initial shoots, delaying evaporation.

I did this project during my residency at JOYA: Art + ecology in Los Gázquez in the Sierra María-Los Vélez Natural Park (Almería, Spain).
